geniaBeads® CA - hydrogel beads from calcium alginate
Alginate is a biopolymer from seaweed which is very common in immobilization and encapsulation applications.
Due to its characteristic structure alginate solutions can be rapidly cured by action mainly of
bivalent ions. Most frequently calcium is used. The special curing gives the resulting hydrogel beads
a characteristic behaviour regarding conditions of pH, temperature, or contents of chelate forming agents or
special ions.
geniaLab® has a huge experience in working with alginates differing in their molecular size, viscosity
or molecular composition. We store a variety of alginate types from different suppliers to be able to react of
the individual demands of your application. We exclusively use certified quality alginates from leading
manufactures to guarantee controlled and consistent conditions for our products.
The hydrogel beads' size can be chosen from a wide range of 0.2 to 3 mm to give them the desired properties
regarding eye-appeal, release properties, or technical demands in general.

Alginate beads with encapsulated powders
By our JetCutter technology we are able to process polymer slurries that are higly loaded with
soluble or insoluble powdery material. Powders are mainly added to prevent dust, to have slow
release properties for soluble substances, to keep a spherical shape fo the beads after drying,
or to raise the density of the particles. Special applications like the production of milling beads
are also possible.
We successfully processed slurries with powder loadings of more than 30 or 40% - which means a very
efficient pay-load for your process.
